Free Summer Color by Number Printables

Summer color by number printables have been one of our favorite quiet-time activities once the school year wraps up.

When the days get long and screens start taking over, these coloring pages give kids a fun, low-pressure way to refocus while still keeping their brains gently engaged.

We’ve used them during road trips, lazy afternoons, and even as a wind-down after camp. Each one adds a little structure to those free-flowing summer days.

And since they’re part of our growing collection of free summer printables, they’re easy to keep on hand whenever you need a quick, creative break.

Summer Color by Number Preschool Worksheets

Once we hit that mid-summer stretch when attention spans are short and the weather’s too hot to move, these summer color by code worksheets are what I reach for.

They’re simple, quiet, and actually keep little ones busy without needing much from you—just print, grab some crayons, and let them settle in.

There are 9 themed pages in total, each one designed for preschoolers but still fun enough that older siblings sometimes join in.

Beyond just filling time, they also help with color recognition, number matching, and fine motor skills, which is a nice bonus when you’re trying to sneak in a little learning without a full lesson plan.

What You’ll Need

Each worksheet includes a color key and uses 10 different colors: light blue, dark blue, red, purple, dark green, light brown, yellow, orange, dark brown, and light green.

Print at full size (8.5×11″), and check your printer settings before you start. These pages are free for personal or classroom use—scroll to the bottom for access.

Have fun with our favorite preschool books about summer too!

Beach

Classic summer: sunshine, towels, beach balls. It’s a bright, happy page and a nice one to start with. Enjoy our free seashore scavenger hunt, too.

A completed “Summer Color by Number” coloring worksheet showing a beach scene with a sun, waves, umbrella, and beach ball. Each numbered area is filled with the corresponding crayon color: yellow, green, red, light blue, dark blue, and purple. A box of 24 Crayola crayons is placed to the right of the worksheet, and red beads are loosely arranged around the bottom left corner.

Ice Cream

Two sweet treats to color—perfect for a quiet activity after an actual trip to the ice cream truck. We always made up new flavors as we colored.

Don’t miss our free ice cream handprint art printable too.

Two uncolored “Summer Color by Number” worksheets are shown with a box of 24 Crayola crayons and a string of purple beads. The left worksheet features seashells and a beach hat, while the right one displays ice cream and popsicles. Each worksheet includes a color key at the top, assigning specific crayon colors to numbers for a guided coloring activity.

Shells

A calmer page with lots of blues and soft purples. Good for winding down or pairing with a beach-themed story.

Camping

A little scene with tents and trees. If your kids love the idea of camping (even if you’re not doing it), this one’s great for the imagination.

Also, try our free campground scavenger hunt.

A completed “Summer Color by Number” worksheet featuring a scene with two trees and a pitched tent near water, with a purple border. The coloring follows a key at the top: purple, light green, dark brown, light blue, dark green, and light brown. A 24-pack of Crayola crayons sits to the right, with strands of blue and red beads arranged around the paper.

Under the Sea

Seaweed, coral, fish—even a shark. This one always sparked questions about ocean animals, which led us straight into our shark worksheets.

A completed “Summer Color by Number” worksheet showing a playful underwater scene with two smiling fish, coral, and seaweed. The numbered sections are colored according to a key using green, dark blue, light blue, grey, orange, and red. A 24-count Crayola crayon box is placed to the right, and strands of blue and red beads surround the colorful activity sheet.

Crab

Simple and bold. My son liked this one best when he was younger because the shapes were easy to color and the crab looked “kind of silly.”

Check out our free crab handprint art, too.

A completed “Summer Color by Number” worksheet featuring a smiling red crab on a sandy yellow beach with a light blue sky. The color key at the top shows yellow, blue, red, and white corresponding to numbers 1 through 4. A 24-count box of Crayola crayons is placed to the right, with strands of red and blue beads around the worksheet.

Yacht

A boat on the water and space to get creative with colors. We used this one to talk about travel and places we’d like to visit someday.

An uncolored “Summer Color by Number” worksheet featuring a sailboat on the ocean beneath a bright sun with rays, surrounded by waves and clouds. The top of the page shows a color key linking numbers to crayon colors: yellow, dark blue, light blue, brown, orange, and red. A 24-pack Crayola crayon box sits to the right, and strands of purple and pink beads frame the page.

Summer Fruits + Island

One page is full of fruit (great for talking about healthy snacks), and the other has a peaceful island scene—an easy favorite when we needed something mellow before dinner.

Two uncolored “Summer Color by Number” worksheets are displayed with a box of Crayola crayons and a purple beaded necklace. The left worksheet features tropical fruit including a pineapple and strawberry, while the right one shows an ocean scene with a small island and palm tree. Both pages include a crayon key at the top linking numbers to colors like yellow, green, purple, dark blue, and brown.
