Free Letter A Coloring Page for Early Learners
The letter A coloring page was a favorite when my son first started exploring letters.
He’d color the ant bright red every time and laugh at the idea of an astronaut floating next to an apple.
These simple images turned into fun conversations, and the page quickly became part of our early reading routine.
With familiar “A” words and bold shapes to color, it’s an easy and creative way to support letter recognition and vocabulary.
This page is part of our free ABC coloring pages, and it’s an easy way to make alphabet practice feel fun and hands-on.

Letter A coloring sheet
This free preschool letter worksheet focuses on the letter A and includes a bold uppercase A alongside six simple illustrations that all begin with the letter.
It’s designed for early learners who are just starting to connect letters with words and images.
Each picture was chosen to spark curiosity and conversation—my son always had questions about the astronaut and thought the ant needed sunglasses.
It’s those little moments that turn a basic worksheet into something memorable.
The sheet includes:
- A is for Ant – My son always colored it bright red. It’s simple, but it led to all sorts of bug questions and silly ant stories.
- A is for Army – Opens up conversations about jobs, uniforms, and people who help in different ways.
- A is for Angel – This one always led to questions about wings and halos—it’s sweet and easy for kids to connect with.
- A is for Astronaut – Great for kids who love space or rocket ships.
- A is for Apple – A familiar word that reinforces letter recognition with a clear visual.
- A is for Acorn – Ties in nicely with nature walks or fall themes.

Letter A Books for Preschool
After finishing the coloring sheet, we often grab a few books to keep the letter A theme going—it’s a simple way to build on what they’ve just colored without adding more “work.” These are a few favorites that have stuck with us:
- Amazing Airplanes. My son loved this one when he went through his plane phase. The rhymes are fun to read aloud, and we’d look for details in the book that matched the pictures on the sheet.
- A is for Apple. A gentle intro to the alphabet with familiar words and bright pictures. It pairs perfectly with the apple image on the page and helps reinforce letter sounds.
- Alligator Alphabet. This one’s just plain fun. The rhyming and colorful alligator illustrations kept him engaged, and it gave us another A-word to talk about while he colored.
If you’re working on the letter A this week, our A is for Apple handprint craft is a fun add-on. It’s simple, a bit messy (in the best way), and ties in nicely with both the coloring page and alphabet books.
