How to Play Scattergories (Without the Official Game)
No game box? No problem! Playing Scattergories with printable category lists is just as fun and easy. Here’s how to set it up.
What You Need:
- A pen or pencil for each player
- A timer (smartphone or separate timer)
- Printable Scattergories lists (choose from the free boards above)
Game Setup:
- Gather the players – Sit around a table or in a comfortable area.
- Distribute materials – Give each player a category list and a pen or pencil.
- Decide on rounds – Most games have three rounds, but you can adjust as needed.
- Set the timer – Each round typically lasts two to three minutes.
How to Play:
- Start the round – Each list has a starting letter at the top. When everyone is ready, start the timer.
- Fill the categories – Players write words that fit each category and start with the chosen letter.
- Check for duplicates – If two or more players have the same word, they cross it out. Only unique answers count.
- Score the round – Players earn one point for each unique answer that wasn’t crossed out.
Winning the Game:
- Repeat for the remaining rounds, selecting a new letter each time.
- After the final round, tally the scores. The player with the most points wins.
