Free Earth Day Word Scramble Printable for Kids

The Earth Day word scramble has been one of our favorite ways to mix learning and fun each April.

I created it originally to help my son practice vocabulary and spelling while sneaking in some Earth Day awareness — and it quickly became part of our spring routine.

Whether you’re adding it to your lesson plan or just looking for screen-free fun, it fits right into Earth Day activities for elementary students.

Earth Day Word Scramble Game

To make this Earth Day word scramble more accessible for different ages, I’ve included two word scramble worksheets.

One has the answers printed subtly around the edges — perfect for younger kids who might need a little extra help.

The other is more of a challenge, with no clues at all, ideal for older students ready to test their environmental vocabulary.

Both versions include 12 scrambled words tied to Earth Day themes like recycling, nature, and conservation.

My son always tries to beat his previous time — and honestly, a couple of these words stumped me too!

This is a great addition to your Earth Day lessons whether you’re teaching in a classroom or learning at home. Just scroll to the bottom of the page to grab the PDF.

More Free Earth Day Worksheets

If you’re looking to add variety to your Earth Day plans, I’ve put together a few favorite printable activities that work well for both classrooms and homeschool days.

Each one helps reinforce environmental ideas in a fun, age-appropriate way.

Our Earth Day writing prompts are a hit in our home — especially the ones that ask kids to imagine life as a tree or come up with ways to protect their neighborhood environment. They’ve sparked some surprisingly thoughtful conversations.

For something more creative, try the Earth Day bookmarks. My son enjoyed decorating them last year and still uses his favorite one. They’re a fun mix of coloring and quiet reflection on why Earth Day matters.

If your kids love to color, the Earth Day coloring pages are packed with animals, nature scenes, and planet-themed designs. They’re great for early finishers or relaxing after more structured lessons.

And for something a bit more active, the Earth Day scavenger hunt gets kids outside and paying attention to the world around them. Ours turned it into a bit of a competition — and ended up noticing things they’d never looked at before in the yard.

And if you’re looking for another word game, the Earth Day word search printable is a simple way to reinforce vocabulary while keeping things fun. It pairs perfectly with the word scramble!
