Earth Day Matching Game
Earth Day, celebrated each year on April 22nd, is the perfect time to introduce simple, engaging activities that help kids think about the environment.
This matching games printable is a hands-on way for young children to work on memory skills while learning about themes like nature, recycling, and taking care of the planet.
Whether you’re planning a themed lesson or just looking to add something new to your Earth Day activities, this printable is both educational and fun—and easy to prep with just one sheet.
How To Set Up
This printable includes 12 different Earth Day-themed images on a single page. To play, you’ll need to print the page twice to create matching pairs.
It prints in portrait layout—double-check your printer settings before printing.
Once printed:
- Cut along the edges to separate the 12 cards.
- You’ll end up with 24 cards in total.
- We like to decorate the back of the cards first, especially if using plain paper.
Tip: If you’re printing on copy paper, use crayons or colored pencils for the back design—pens may bleed through.
We usually use a paper cutter for speed and precision, but scissors work fine too.
How to play
- Shuffle the 24 cards and place them face-down on a table.
- For younger kids, lay them out in neat rows (we use 6 rows of 4).
- Players take turns flipping over two cards at a time, looking for a match.
- If they match, keep them face-up or set them aside.
- If not, flip them back over and try again on the next turn.
- The player with the most matched pairs at the end wins.
Celebrate the winner with a small Earth Day prize—we like these save the Earth stickers.
