7 Fun and Easy Chalk Marker Ideas

As the summer is now upon us, I thought it would be a perfect time to do some arts and crafts with these chalk markers. We are not particularly arty, in fact, I am absolutely terrible at drawing. I mean, really bad! So I needed to brainstorm and find some fun but easy chalk marker ideas to do with my son.

I know I am not the only one that struggles coming up with arty projects. So I thought I would create a post, to give you some ideas about what you can do with your chalk markers.

Things to draw with chalk markers

As it is coming up to the 4th of July weekend, and we are having friends over, I thought we could create some super cute decorations. Check out the 4th of July games we will be playing too!

Plastic Tablewear

These plastic trays are absolutely perfect for drawing on. The chalk marker pens dry really quickly, and they are super vibrant. A perfect and easy way to make any celebration more fun and decorative.

Glasses

I wasn’t expecting the chalk pens to work as well on glasses, but I was wrong. The Chalkola markers work so well and are really easy to write with.

Plastic Cups

We enjoy playing educational board games as a family, so we added some numbers to these plastic cups, so we could play beer pong.

White Board

We use this white board a lot in our homeschool, and the chalk markers are just perfect for this. I mean of course, this was just for fun. But to use these colorful pens when we are doing math questions is so much more fun than just using black.

Storage Containers

As I like to be as organized as possible, these labels are perfect for keeping the pantry neat and tidy. The chalk markers are a great way to add a bit of color to your storage bins, or for keeping track of what is in what.

Plastic Serving Dishes

We have a lot of plain boring serving dishes, so these Chalkola markers are just a perfect way to make them look fun.

Can You Wipe Off Chalk Markers?

This to me is the most important question! I absolutely hate mess! So if these didn’t clear up easily, we wouldn’t be using them!! I of course tested them first, before I gave them to Freddie, just in case.

Although the chalk came off, it was much easier to get off after the chalk marker pens had properly dried.

We absolutely loved them, I was fully expecting to like them. But they are so much better than we had anticipated. The colors are really vivid, and they are super easy to use.

Tips for Using Chalkola

  • Make sure you shake the pens for about 30 seconds
  • You have to gently press the pens onto a blank piece of paper (we used the box lid) until the chalk comes out. This can take a while. But we NEVER had one that didn’t work – I was very impressed
  • When you are drawing, be careful as the chalk markers sometimes drip (we noticed this, especially when using the gold pen)
  • Ensure the chalk is dry before adding another color (we noticed this when drawing the US flag)
  • Make sure you click the lid tightly when finished

You can purchase these chalk markers from Chalkola and get free postage! They recently launched their online shop for art supplies in the UK.

What Surfaces Can I Use Chalk Markers On?

When I first received them, I have to say I was a little concerned. As I do not have any chalkboards. Surely that is all you can use chalk markers on? No, apparently not! You can pretty much use them on any non-porous surface.

  • Chalkboards
  • Whiteboards
  • Blackboards
  • Windows
  • Glass
  • Ceramics
  • Plastic Cups
  • Plastic
  • Floor outside
  • Plastic Tablewear
  • Canvas
  • Paper

  • Any other non-porous surface!
