We have recently created a penguin life cycle printable which can be completed after this one.

Polar bear research paper

The children will need access to the internet to complete the information about polar bears. They need to find:

  • In what countries can you find polar bears in their natural habitat? They live in different parts of the Arctic, but are only found in these 5 countries: Canada, Greenland (Denmark), Norway, Russia, and Alaska (U.S.A.).
  • How long do polar bears live? In the wild, and in captivity? The polar bear lifespan of wild polar bears is rarely past 30 years old, and in captivity, the life expectancy of a polar bear is about 23 years.
  • How many babies do they typically have? Pregnant females usually have two cubs. The cubs are typically born between November to January in a maternity den. This is a cave-like hole dug into the snowbanks by the mother bear.
  • The type of birth, is it egg or live? They give birth to polar bear cubs.
  • What food do polar bears eat? How do they get their food? They mainly eat bearded seals, but they also eat walruses and whale carcasses. Polar bears hunt seals by waiting for them to come to the surface of the ice to breathe. When the seal gets near the top, the polar bear will bite or grab the seal and pull it onto land to eat.
  • What is the population of polar bears? What is their biggest threat? There are between 22,000–31,000 polar bears across the Arctic. Their biggest threat is climate change.
a two-page spread with a Polar Bear worksheet on the left side and a photo book spread about polar bears on the right. The worksheet is titled "POLAR BEARS" and includes questions such as "In what countries can you find polar bears in their natural habitat?" and "What food do polar bears eat? How do they get their food?" It also features sections to write answers about polar bears' lifespan, type of birth, and population threats. The right page of the spread showcases the Polar Bear life cycle, showing illustrations of polar bears in their natural environment.

Polar bear matching game printable

The final worksheet is a fun game that the children can play after they have done their work.

You will need to print the page out twice.

When you have printed the 2 pages you will need to cut out all of the different images. I prefer to use a paper cutter as it’s easier, quicker, and more accurate, but scissors will work too.

two printable pages for a "Polar Bear Memory Game." Each page contains a grid of polar bear images, which players can cut out and use for a memory matching game. The instructions for the game are at the top, guiding players to print the pages, cut out the cards, and then match pairs of identical images. The goal is to collect the most pairs of matching cards. The polar bear illustrations depict different stages of a polar bear's life.

Shuffle them up and lay them on the table face down in rows to make it easier, or just randomly on the table for older kids.

If you are placing them in rows I find 4 rows with 6 images each works best.

a completed "Polar Bear Memory Game." The game cards have been printed and cut out, with polar bear illustrations alongside abstract blue and purple swirl designs. The objective is to match identical images of polar bears in various stages of life, such as a bear cub in a den, a mother with a cub, and an adult polar bear.

We love to add the Life Cycles book to our studies.

Playing the game is simple. Take it, in turn, to turn over only 2 images. If it is a match you can either remove them from the game and place them in front of you or leave them turned over face up.

The winner is the person who creates the most matches.
