What is Ramadan for kids?

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by Muslims in Islamic countries and around the globe as the holy month of Ramadan. It’s a time dedicated to fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. During the days of Ramadan, from dawn until sunset, Muslims abstain from eating or drinking, focusing instead on spiritual growth, good deeds, and spending time with loved ones.

The Ramadan calendar guides them through these 29 or 30 days, highlighting the start and end times for daily fasting. “Ramadan Mubarak” is a common greeting exchanged during this period, meaning “Blessed Ramadan,” offering good wishes for the month.

Good deeds are particularly emphasized during Ramadan. These can include helping those in need, being kind to others, and making charitable donations. The idea is to cultivate a sense of generosity and community spirit.

By observing the fast and engaging in additional prayers and Quran reading, Muslims seek to deepen their faith and self-discipline. The holy month of Ramadan concludes with Eid al-Fitr, a festive celebration marked by communal prayers, feasts, and giving to charity, celebrating the completion of this sacred time.
